Hi Friends!
How are you today? Our post today talks about Halloween and Fall, a fun and beautiful time to be in the United States!
Halloween happens every October 31st. It is originated from the ancient Celtic festival known as Samhain (pronounced “sah-win”). The Celtic people thought of the date is a day to celebrate the end of the harvest season, so they had to save and stock their food and supplies to prepare for winter. They believed that on the last day of October, dead living beings would come to life and destroy their plantations. Therefore they had to be prepared to save all the food they could and to scare them away. They also had sacrifices in bonfires in which they wore costumes. Interesting, right?
In the US, kids and Adults dress up in costumes and get to be whatever they want for one day. One of the most popular traditions is called ‘trick or treat’, when kids put on their costumes and go from door to door saying ‘trick or treat’ to get candy. They carry plastic bags, totes and sometimes even pillowcases to ask the neighbors for some sweets! Kids also like to tell scary stories to their friends and most elementary schools have parades, when all the kids walk around the school showing their costumes to parents and friends! The teachers wear costumes too! You can even put a costume on your dog!
Adults dress up, go to parties and clubs and some adults even wear costumes to their jobs! Another way to celebrate is to go visit haunted houses and play tricks and pranks on your friends.
Another tradition is to create Jack O’lanterns, which is to carve faces on a pumpkin and put a candle inside to light it up. Then you decorate your house with it. Oh, Halloween decoration is very important!! A lot of houses use fake spider webs on their yards, witches, ghosts, scary monsters, pumpkins and everything to make the house look funny or scary! Some houses even create a graveyard!

Halloween happens during the Fall (or Autumn) therefore it is a bit cold. However, it is beautiful outside because the leaves on the trees are changing colors: there’s yellow, brown, pink, orange and even red! Stay tooned for a post full of Fall traditions…but for now HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYBODY!!!
